Wisdom Kwati Smart City, a name that has steadily grown in Nigeria”s real estate industry, is charting new territory by integrating technology and sustainability into property development. With ongoing projects in Abuja, Adamawa, and Lagos, as well as expansions into African markets like Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Kenya, the company aims to set a practical example for how technology can redefine urban living in Nigeria and beyond.
The company’s approach to real estate centers around blending smart technology with sustainable construction practices, a strategy that has garnered attention in recent years. In a recent statement to the Press on the company’s direction for 2025, Wisdom Kwati, the Chairman of Wisdom Kwati Group, acknowledged the progress the company has made so far, noting, “We have seen significant growth over the past few years, especially in our efforts to develop estates that use technology to make living more comfortable and efficient. Our focus is on creating developments that are not only luxurious but sustainable and environmentally friendly.”
A few of the company’s most notable achievements are the Wisdom Kwati Smart City projects in Sangere Yola, and also at Idu, Karsana and Karshi in Abuja. These developments are designed to incorporate IoT solutions, smart energy management, and water conservation systems, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of the estate. This isn’t about flashy technology for its own sake but rather about adopting solutions that offer real benefits to residents.
Zara Kwati, Managing Director of Wisdom Kwati Smart City, explained, “We have adopted a data-driven approach to managing energy consumption, with smart meters and automated systems that help residents monitor and reduce their energy use. This way, they save on utility costs while contributing to a greener environment.” She stated.
While the company has gained recognition for its innovation, it is clear that they are taking a step-by-step approach to ensure that each new development meets the standards of sustainability and practicality. The integration of solar power and intelligent waste management systems in these estates exemplifies this measured strategy. “It’s not just about creating a ‘smart’ label for our projects; it’s about making sure that these technological solutions add real value to the lives of those who live in our estates.
We made these promises at the launch of our projects, and we are on the path to ensuring that everything we promised is delivered. Trust is important to us,” noted Isaiah Bulus, Chief Corporate Services Officer of Wisdom Kwati Group.
Beyond Nigeria’s borders, Wisdom Kwati Smart City has set its sights on scaling this model to other African markets. The company’s expansion into Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Kenya is not just a bid for regional influence but a strategic move to replicate its approach to smart living across the continent. The goal is to complete and deliver at least two similar developments in these countries by 2034, using lessons learned from their Nigerian projects to improve and adapt to local conditions. Gona Shelan, CEO of Wisdom Kwati Smart City, elaborated, “We are keen on understanding the unique needs of each market.
Our focus is on replicating the core principles of sustainability and efficiency, but with adaptations that reflect the realities of each new environment.”
Shelan emphasized that these efforts are not without their challenges, particularly in managing the balance between maintaining high standards of technological integration and ensuring affordability for residents. “The reality is that implementing these solutions can be capital intensive, and our goal is to make them accessible without compromising on quality.
Our timeline is realistic—we are in the final stages of conversations with the Sierra Leone government, with plans to launch the first smart city project by the end of 2025, followed by Ghana and Kenya in 2026. We are ensuring that we meet local regulatory requirements while delivering a product that truly resonates with the community.”
The company’s progress is being closely watched by industry observers, who are eager to see how their model will impact Nigeria’s real estate market and influence standards in other regions. In a market that is becoming increasingly competitive, Wisdom Kwati Smart City has managed to carve out a niche by focusing on practicality rather than exaggeration. This approach, grounded in realistic targets and a commitment to long-term sustainability, is likely to play a key role in shaping the future of urban living in Africa.
