Nansha is an important area of Guangzhou’s international trade and economy cooperation. On October 14, 2025, the China-Africa Economic and Trade Greater Bay Area International Business Center, underwent an opening ceremony, indicative of refreshing construction of ties with Africa. These international business centers are expected to bring in several opportunities to enhance global trade along with local business investments.
Nansha’s Strategic Position as a Global Trade Gateway
Nansha’s growing significance as an international trade center comes as no surprise. In 2024, Nansha Port handled 20.5 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), securing its place among the top ten ports globally. With connections to over 310 ports across 120 countries, Nansha Port ensures fast and efficient cargo transit, making it an ideal location for international business.
But Nansha’s appeal goes beyond its ports. Recognized by UNESCO for its livability, the district boasts coastal, cultural, and sports facilities, making it an attractive hub for both business and tourism. The region’s blend of infrastructure, accessibility, and quality of life positions it as a key player in international trade relations.
The China-Africa Economic and Trade Greater Bay Area International Business Center
The opening of this center is more than just a physical space; it represents a new era in Sino-African cooperation. A joint initiative between the Nansha District Government and the China-Africa Friendly Economic and Trade Development Foundation, this innovative center provides an all-in-one platform for African and Chinese businesses. It offers office spaces, trade and cultural exchange venues, and essential services, including policy consulting, legal support, and supply chain management.
Zhang Yi, President of the China-Africa Foundation, referred to the Greater Bay Area as a “golden link” between China and Africa. With Nansha’s strategic location, world-class logistics infrastructure, and thriving market, the center is poised to attract more Africa-related trade, setting a benchmark for future collaborations.
A Pioneering Step: First African Institution at Nansha Hub
During the grand opening, the China-Madagascar Economic and Trade Cooperation Center became the first African institution to establish its presence at the trade hub. This partnership is a symbol of growing Sino-African ties and a concrete example of how this new platform will benefit African countries.
Madagascar’s Ambassador to China, Jean Louis Robinson, praised the collaboration as a crucial step in turning the shared vision of greater economic integration into reality. He highlighted Nansha’s favorable tax policies, extensive shipping routes to Africa, and robust infrastructure as key factors that will drive long-term economic development. Robinson believes that Nansha will soon become a global trade hub, offering a full chain of services that connect African demand with Chinese processing and global distribution.
Focus on Joint Investments and Future Expansion
Looking ahead, the new trade center is committed to driving joint investments between China and Africa in sectors such as agriculture, mining, clean energy, and smart ports. Nansha is already accelerating the development of integrated services that support Chinese enterprises seeking to expand into global markets. The region is actively building partnerships with five African economic and trade zones, six business associations, and numerous consulates, establishing a solid foundation for cross-continental cooperation.
Strengthening the China-Africa Partnership
This initiative is much more than just building infrastructure. It is a manifestation of the new long-term economic relationship China is trying to build along Africa. Nansha is set to become a crucial hub for Africa-China commerce by dedicating zones for businesses, investment, and cross-cultural interactions. It is redefining the world of trade and commerce by extending strategic partnerships, and offering new gateways to investors and businesses along its robust networks.
With its strategic positioning, Nansha offers global reach hindsight, redefining the realm of international trade for Africa and China. Nansha is set to become a new, dynamic trade center which will foster cross-synergy and innovation, along with collaborative growth and economic relationship. Nansha will surely innovate the world of commerce along Africa and China, putting cultural relationships along the global scale.
